The fact is if you want to make money from a web site, probably the best way to do it is to sell your own products.The major advantages of selling your own product include that you have total absolute control, and more importantly, you get to keep all the profits. "Sounds great" I hear you say - but you might well be thinking this woman's crazy... How does she expect me to make my own product? I don't have experience in making things and I don't want to have deal with shipping goods to customers, keeping a garage of inventory, and hitting up all my friends and neighbors to buy or enroll in something. (Can I safely assume that's one of the reasons why you want to do business online??) There is some free advice and there is some help you have to pay for in the resources listed on these pages. My hope is that you will find in your own mind and life's experiences something that you can harness into a product that you can market online. If you read more about affiliate marketing and want to do that, there are enough resources here and in the newsletter to get you on the road to making some cash fast. From the time that you create your site, until you start making money is all up to you. (Don't start hating this part !! This is the best part....) It's the most challenging part!! And I can tell you that if you don't like marketing, then you're looking at taking on the wrong business!! Ecommerce is all about MARKETING !! Once you come up with the product (yours or someone else's) you have to drive traffic to the site to sell it. I mean, where would Wal-Mart be without the thousands of people that visit their store everyday? The Good News Well the good news is you may not know it, but you already have all the fundamental answers (and can easily get access to the rest from a number of excellent web-based services) to setting up this type of business. Here's what you need to do:
What kind of Product ? Some of the hottest types of products on the web, are information-based products... And I don't mean a bunch of poor quality reports you picked up from newsgroups... I mean quality, detailed, valuable information like Dale Armin Miller's SUCCESS Arsenal! or Mark Joyner's 1001 Killer Internet Marketing Tactics or Corey Rudl's The Insider Secrets to Marketing Your Business on the Internet Okay, those are Internet Marketing examples, but you can find plenty of other information-based products on just about any topic from The Negative Calorie Diet to The Dummy's Guide to Buying a Used RV. The key point is this; a product is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. People want access to the information in those products. They find them valuable, and are prepared to pay for them. I make my living as a website designer/affiliate marketer.... I KNOW THIS!! So your first decision is what kind of product you want to create. Your information product can be about anything you like - just so long as you're confident there are people out there who are interested in the topic - and you can genuinely claim to have some expertise in the subject. It doesn't matter whether you're product relates to a hobby you've had a lifelong interest in, or a business-orientated subject.
Creating your Product While some of the products we've already mentioned, like The Insider Secrets to Marketing Your Business on the Internet are shipped as "physical" goods to customers, most of them aren't - they're pure information. The really exciting thing is that if you can make web pages (and if you can't, just let me do it for you), then you can create your own pure information product. EBookCompiler.com and other E-Book compilers - allow you to take the web pages you create as normal, and "compile" them into self-contained Electronic Book (or "E-Book" for short). Writing your E-book is the hardest part, so you will need take the time to a create a quality and worthwhile product. This is of course another reason why you should write about a subject you already have some knowledge of, and an interest in. Obviously you don't want customers demanding their money back because you've tricked them into buying a junk product. It's much better that every customer is 100% satisfied. This way word will spread, helping you get more customers, and meaning your customers will be much more likely to buy your 2nd E-Book when it comes out (Tip: getting a 2nd order from a satisified customer is much easier than finding a new customer). Taking Orders Now there's only one thing left to do before you're ready to start accepting orders: You need to set up a sales web site. JDA Publishing can help you. If your demonstration product has value in itself, this will attract lots of interest in the full product - just make sure the users of the demo version know where to find your web site! Additionally give the demo version away like crazy (and try and get other people to help you give it away, like for example shareware libraries or related web sites). If your demo version is scattered all over the web, people will see it, and at least some of them will end up buying your full product.
